𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐞 𝐊𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
Mr. and Mrs. Benedict Bridgerton had four children. As the second son with a wife of questionable ancestry, Mr. and Mrs. B. Bridgerton’s children do not bring the intrigue that the children of the Viscount and Viscountess as well as Mr. B. Bridgerton’s sisters’ numerous children. Eldest son Charles (intimately known as Charlie) is a country doctor, based in Wiltshire not far from where he grew up. Dr. Bridgerton was not often seen in London due to his demanding career. As such, it was no surprise that Dr. Bridgerton found his wife outside of town. What was surprising was that Dr. Bridgerton’s wife, one Miss Helena Shepherd was the governess to a handful of Dr. Bridgerton’s cousins. Meanwhile, second son Alexander is based in London, as a renowned architect. Of course, Mr. Alexander Bridgerton’s renown did not help him in his courtship of Lady Emma Rutledge, the youngest daughter of the Duke of Ashbourne. The dowager duchess, Lady Emma’s grandmother, was mightily against the match and, reader, it is said that the dowager viscountess, Mr. Alexander Bridgerton’s grandmother, was instrumental in organizing the match. Third and youngest son, William, has recently become a professor of history and the French language at Oxford. The most elusive of Mr. and Mrs. B. Bridgerton’s children, Mr. W. Bridgerton was known to keep the company of his family above all else. It was Mr. W. Bridgerton, reader, that married the Irish and Catholic Miss Roisin O’Connolly, ward to the earl of Fotherby. Mr. and Mrs. B. Bridgerton’s only daughter, Violet, has had a difficult series of seasons on the marriage mart. A kind and friendly young woman, Miss V. Bridgerton had been courted by no fewer than six different men. It was the sixth man, the newly minted marquess of Insley (and, reader, Lord Insley has a scandal of his own), that finally captured to picky Miss V. Bridgerton’s heart.

𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗘𝗱𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗱 “𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗲” 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗼𝗻
Born in 1818, Charlie is named after his invented maternal grandfather and his real paternal grandfather. It was the easiest name decision that Benedict ever made. Naming his son after his father was the easiest decision ever… significantly easier than naming Alexander and William and easier than picking Violet’s middle name. He usually goes by Charlie.
Charlie, like both his brothers, inherited the Bridgerton chestnut brown hair. In addition, he has the same color eyes as his mother. Charlie stands at 6’1”, which makes him taller than Alexander but shorter than William.
Charlie’s godparents are Posy and Anthony.
Charlie is a momma’s boy. He adores his mother. They’ve always been close and he often goes to her for advice.
Out of his family, Charlie is the most in touch with his emotions. He’s definitely an introvert, but he is able to articulate his emotions better than any of his siblings (and his father). Charlie also enjoys spending time with other people, although not as much as his sister does.
Charlie has a very curious nature. He wants to know everything about everything. He loves to learn and has a very open mind about new scientific and medical discoveries.
Charlie is a doctor. He was driven, in part, by the feeling of helplessness that accompanied his little brother’s horse riding accident. He took a few classes during his early years of university and fell in love. Charlie works in the village that he grew up in, taking over after the village’s old doctor retired. In addition, Charlie generally accepts medical advancements easily. He’s known to talk people’s ears off about the new theories and advancements that pop up, especially when he’s in London. However, Charlie has never wanted to be a city doctor. He’s quite comfortable with working in the country as long as he can keep up with discoveries and advancements from the city.
In the summer of 1846, Charlie took a little holiday to visit his Uncle Gregory and Aunt Lucy and their horde of children. He loved his silly mass of cousins. He just hadn’t been counting on her. Her, of course, referred to the governess that Gregory and Lucy had hired a few months prior, a Miss Helena “Nell” Shepherd. Charlie fell hard and fast for Miss Nell Shepherd, and she felt it too, although she was a lot more cautious than Charlie. They married in November of 1846. Charlie was 28 and Nell was 25.
Charlie and Nell have five children together. Their eldest child, a son named Norman Benedict Bridgerton, was born in early 1848. Eighteen months later, in the summer of 1849, Sophia Abigail Bridgerton, was born. Three years later, in 1852, Margaret Helena “Meg” Bridgerton was born. Two years later, in 1854, James Edmund Bridgerton was born. Three years later, in 1857, their youngest son, Shepherd Charles Bridgerton, was born.
In the modern ‘verse, pediatrician Charlie Bridgerton meets year 2/first grade teacher Nell Shepherd when his little cousin, Eloise, invites him to speak during her school’s career day. Nell also happens to be his little cousin (and Eloise’s twin sister), Frannie’s teacher.

Born in 1820, Alexander’s middle name, Benedict, is after his father. Benedict had initially been a bit reluctant but eventually came around when he heard the names together.
Alexander, like his brothers, inherited the Bridgerton chestnut hair. He also inherited Sophie’s eye color. Alexander is the shortest of Benedict and Sophie’s three boys, standing at 6’0”… which means that he’s still taller than many of his cousins who are on average between 5’9” and 5’11”.
Alexander’s godparents are Colin and Eloise.
Alexander is a bit of a momma’s boy. He’s not as close to Sophie as Charlie is, but he’s closer to her than either William or (at least, during childhood) Violet.
Alexander has a protective streak. He refuses to put up with people saying negative things about his family. In addition, Alexander also refuses to stand by when people are being bullied. As a result, he got into a lot of fights at school with older boys who were picking on the smaller boys. He also had a lot of fights with people who said things about his family. Alexander is especially protective of William, after the younger boy’s horse riding accident.
Alexander is the most artistic of Benedict and Sophie’s four children. He could be a talented painter if he wanted to be one. However, Alexander also has Sophie’s knack for numbers. These two talents lead Alexander into the world of architecture and he becomes a talented architect.
Alexander enjoys fencing and is a talented fencer. He’s the best out of his brothers and is the only one who can regularly beat Violet at it. In addition, Alexander enjoys practicing boxing, but he’s rarely interested in competing.
Alexander is an introvert, who prefers to spend time with a select group of people, mostly his big family. As an adult, he often feels like he expunges most of his energy on his clients. Therefore, when it comes time to attend balls, Alexander is usually less than enthusiastic. However, he is more extroverted than William, but not as extroverted as Charlie or Violet.
Alexander usually appears fairly uptight, but he’s actually a romantic at heart. He enjoys doing small romantic gestures for the woman he’s in love with. If you asked his wife, Lady Emma, the most meaningful gift that she ever received from Alexander was a pair of spectacles while they were courting.
In the 1847 season, Alexander promised his grandmother that he would attend more balls than usual. It ends up being a pretty good decision as, at a ball hosted by the Viscount and Viscountess Bridgerton, Alexander meets Lady Emma Rutledge, the daughter of a duke. He falls hard for the young woman, and despite her grandmother’s objections, Lady Emma falls in love with him too. Alexander married Lady Emma that year, 1847. He was twenty-seven, while Emma was twenty-four.
Alexander and Emma had two children together. Their twins, Vincent Charles Bridgerton and Beckett Nicholas Bridgerton, were born in 1857. Alexander and Emma faced difficulty conceiving and carrying children, a difficulty that brought Alexander closer to his Aunt Francesca and Uncle Michael.
In the modern ‘verse, Alexander is an architect who falls in love with a rich girl and artist, Emma.

Born in 1822, William’s middle name, Nicholas, is shared with Benedict. Benedict’s middle name is after Nicholas Rokesby, Edmund’s best friend and eventually, Edmund’s brother-in-law.
Like his brothers, William inherited the Bridgerton chestnut brown hair. He also has the same color eyes as his father, which means that William looks the most like his late paternal grandfather. Of course, that likeness is slightly interrupted by the fact that William wears glasses and has since the age of eleven. He is the tallest of Benedict and Sophie’s three sons, standing at 6’2”.
William’s godparents are Gregory and Francesca.
Sophie’s pregnancy with William was the toughest one. She suffered from a more severe morning sickness than with the other three and she was placed on bed rest shortly before William was born. Labor was also the most stressful and she bled more than she had with the other three. Modern ‘verse William was born three weeks prematurely.
At the age of ten, William was involved in a horse riding accident where he fell off the horse and was knocked unconscious. He was trying to keep up with his brothers and older cousins (Edmund, Miles, David, and Oliver) when his horse got spooked and reacted in a way that caused William to fall. At 17 and as the eldest male cousin, Edmund took charge and gave orders to David and Miles while Oliver calmed the horse. In the end, it was Edmund’s quick thinking that meant that William was only minorly injured. He’d badly broken his right arm and both legs and had a concussion, but aside from the occasional word finding difficulty, William had walked away with no permanent injuries or issues.
William had always been the quietest of Benedict and Sophie’s children. This was exacerbated by the accident and occasional word finding difficulties, but it had always been his nature. He didn’t confide his thoughts and feelings to many people. He tended to keep to himself, and unfortunately, William had inherited his father’s tendency to keep things bottled until they blow up.
William keeps a lot of his struggles quiet and to himself. No one knows how much he struggles to find a career that he feels is suitable. The clergy was a no-go, as was the military. He wasn’t as good at math and numbers as Alexander and Charlie. He didn’t have the creativeness or lightheartedness that Violet had. He doesn’t have passions the way some of his cousins do. He was not big on farming or investing. In the end, William ends up as a university professor, teaching French and history. He’s known to be a generous professor and many students try to have him as their tutor.
In 1848, while shopping for books, William literally ran into Róisín O’Connolly while coming out of a shop. He stopped to help her pick up her packages and finds himself becoming smitten with Róisín and her Irish accent. After that encounter, though, he’s convinced he’ll never see her again. He’s shocked to see Róisín at a parlor, debating fiercely the policies surrounding the current food conditions of the Irish people with a member of the House of Lords. It’s not an easy relationship, what with managing religious differences (he’s Anglican and she’s Catholic). Despite that, William married Róisín in the fall of 1848. He was 26 and she was 24.
William and Róisín have four children together. Their eldest child, a daughter named Johanna Mary “Jo” Bridgerton, was born in 1850. Two years later, in 1852, Clare Sophia Bridgerton was born. Two years after Clare, in 1854, Sarah Róisín Bridgerton was born. Finally, three years later, in 1857, their only son, Patrick William Bridgerton was born.
In the modern ‘verse, William works as a history teacher, following the footsteps of his parents as Benedict and Sophie both become teachers. He falls in love with journalist Róisín O’Connolly.

𝗩𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗮 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗼𝗻
Born in 1824, Violet is named after her paternal grandmother and her mother. Sophie originally hadn’t wanted to name her daughter directly after herself, but eventually came around when she met Violet and Benedict insisted that she was a Violet Sophia.
Violet is the one of her siblings to have inherited Sophie’s hair color. She does not have Sophie’s eye color, though. Instead, she has Benedict’s eye color. Violet is also the child to look the most like Sophie. She has Sophie’s petite frame too, standing at 5’3”.
Violet’s godparents are Phillip and Daphne.
Violet is very close to her father. They have a very good and close relationship, partially due to being the only girl and being the only child at home for a few years. Benedict often refers to Violet as his favorite daughter.
Violet is the most extroverted of the four Benophie kids. She’s still an introvert, but she enjoys being out and about in the social world a lot more than her three brothers do. She loves to chat with cousins and family and friends. However, Violet also tends to be quite guarded around those who are not family, especially after she has six failed courtships.
Violet enjoys baking. She doesn't want to be responsible for a whole crowd or party, but baking occasionally for her family is very much up to Violet’s enjoyment. It’s a hobby.
Violet is a big animal lover. She’s known to bring all sorts of stray animals home, from those that should be pets to those that really shouldn’t be pets. At age 5, she begs Benedict and Sophie for a puppy, with help from her brothers. They relent and adopt a retriever puppy, the runt of the litter. Violet makes the family house dog people.
Violet took fencing lessons with her brothers, after much pleading. To her great satisfaction, she is the best fencer in the family. She struggles to best Alexander, the next best fencer (and really, that's only by a hair), the most.
In the 1848 season, Violet declared that it was to be her final season. She was tired of being used by the men of the ton. Luckily, fate was on her side, and Violet met the 22nd marquess of Insley, Jack Fullerton. He’s new to the ton’s world and with a complicated (and scandalous) family history. And there’s just something about being around Jack that leaves Violet feeling content and like letting her guard down. Violet and Jack married in January of 1849. She was twenty-four and he was twenty-six.
Violet and Jack have four children together. Their eldest, a son named Thomas Benedict Fullerton, was born in late 1849. Two years later in 1851, Henry Jack Fullerton was born. Three years later, in 1854, Josephine Sophia “Josie” Fullerton was born. Four years later, in 1858, their youngest child and son, Lysander William Fullerton, was born.
In the modern ‘verse, recently graduated veterinarian Violet meets Olympic hopeful and ice hockey player, Jack Fullerton, who has recently come into an extremely generous inheritance from an uncle he never knew existed. It’s a bit chaotic and messy and everything, but boy do Jack and Violet love each other.

Father!Alastor & Child!GN!Reader
PURELY PLATONIC
Tumblr media
TW:NONE!
A/N: I just have ideas for Papa Alastor and his little fawn gremlin child. To that Anon who came up with it! If you have any input don’t be afraid to reblog or shoot me an ask with your own (even if my askbox is closed just let me know it’s you).  I was listening to ‘No More Birthdays by Sophie May’.
Domestic fluff with Papa Alastor and his little fawn.
Second Part
So- I don’t know if sinners “age” or grow up in hell but let’s say for the sake of this little post that they do but it's really really slow or you're just a little child forever..WHO KNOWS.
Anyways…you’re like a carbon copy of Alastor only smaller and maybe brighter colors (Where as he has dark red hair you have maybe lighter red hair or a different light color) and little white spots in your hair or fur, maybe some freckles too.
You are the only soul that is allowed to touch his cane without his permission or guidance, especially because he knows you like to wander off at times, not too far but when you both are walking down the street and he’s not feeling into physical contact he holds his cane out to you and that’s your cue to hold on. If he’s fine with physical contact? He’ll be holding your tiny hand into his, it’s something he got used to doing when he walked you to school those early mornings before he had to go to his radio station.
When he introduces you to Niffty and Husk? He’s not worried about Niffty, but he is glaring Husk down as you walk around the ex-overlord. You’re just curious. But once you get used to him you walk back over to your Papa and hold onto his cane, that’s his signal that you’re ready to go.
I’m a firm believer that sinners still feel the pain of whatever killed them in life when they get into hell as a reminder of why they are there. So speaking of that, Alastor gets hella bad migraines which he got used to easily but when he hears you coughing? He’s immediately by your side and holding a handkerchief to your mouth. He pulls you closer to him if it’s one of those bad coughs that make you wheeze really bad, he’s just a scared Papa and doesn’t know modern medicine well enough to get you the right treatment.
He dresses you in the fashion he’s used to, which is either a button down shirt with slacks or a dress. You’d wear a small little bowtie either around your neck or in your hair.
Now when he arrives at the Hotel with you? You’re automatically being held because he knows you as his child and how curious you are but also he’s a paranoid deer dad. But after a while? He’s letting you down and gently patting your back to let you wander around, just please stay in his line of sight for now. He walks around the hotel with you so you can see all the sights as Charlie and Vaggie are with him explaining everything.
Speaking of Charlie and Vaggie, they both terrified you and it almost sent Alastor into a frenzy. He doesn’t care if Vaggie points a spear at him but not at his little fawn. Charlie was just loud and that frightened you.
Angel Dust wasn’t allowed around you for a while, but once he was, he was very sober and didn’t utter a word about anything your ears shouldn’t know lest he faces the wrath of your Papa. He also gets you treats and gives you head pats.
You do have your own room next to Alastor’s and he makes sure it looks like it did when you were alive, filled with your favorite toys and books lining the shelves. He got Rosie to make you a new teddy bear that resembled him once more and you absolutely adore that thing.
You and Niffty are gremlins together but she keeps her eye on you the whole time and makes sure you don’t get hurt or in trouble. She’s also very helpful when you start having a coughing fit but if it gets really bad? She gets Charlie or Husk to help.
Alastor pulls Charlie aside one day whilst you are playing, “Charlie, you know I don’t believe in this silly little redemption thing as a whole but..if this does end up working, I want my little fawn to be up there. They don’t deserve to be down here with these disgusting and vile creatures. That’s all I care about.” He whispered glancing back at you as Charlie followed his gaze before smiling and nodding, “Of course, Alastor. How did..” She stopped herself as Alastor stood up tall. “They were sick ever since they were just a little baby..” He whispered out before clearing his throat and cleaning his monocle. He was done talking..reminiscing on his past mistakes.
When Mimzy comes around? He doesn’t let her near you, he knows what trouble she brings and he won’t stand for it if she dares harm a hair on your head. It’s not that he doesn’t trust her, it’s just he’d rather not feel the heartbreak he did all those years ago when he first lost you.
Some nights when you're fast asleep he holds you in his arms and sits on the floor. It grounds him when he feels you breathing, especially when memories of that night plague him and he can’t seem to catch a break. Even if he’s at his breaking point with physical affection, he will force himself to hold you just because those thoughts are plaguing him and he has to make sure you're breathing. His hands will rub circles on your back and he’ll let himself cry but it will be drowned out by soft jazz playing just in case someone walks by your bedroom door.
He also finds it soothing when he brushes and does your hair, even if you don’t have long hair he’ll brush it out for you in the mornings while he enjoys his coffee. He’s very careful around your tiny deer ears too. If you have trouble tying your bowtie or bow? Don’t worry, He is getting down on one knee and tying it for you while talking you through the steps.
100% you are his little sous chef/ taste tester. His love for spicy food is passed down to you and if it’s not spicy enough for you it’s definitely not spicy for him. While he himself doesn’t like to indulge in sweets, he’ll learn to make your favorite treat and surprise you with it.
Omg when Lucifer comes to the hotel? Alastor gets protective because now the King of Hell is talking to you and not him but he’s not being mean about it…kinda. He’ll make an off joke about Alastor and you’ll stomp your hoof and puff your chest out and headbutting Lucifer. It’s even better if you have little nubs where your antlers (if you have them) are growing in. That’s what the King of Hell gets for bad talking your Papa in front of you! It doesn’t hurt Lucifer but he gets the gist (he doesn’t)
A/N: Once again if anyone has any headcannons of their own go wild. These are just I thought of!
Taglist: @littledolly2345, @aboyscriminalrecord (figured since you drew those masterpieces, I'd tag you in some more little headcanons)

Birthday Party ┃MV1
summary:Where max and his wife organize their little daughter's birthday party
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was a sunny morning and Max was a little stressed but totally excited because he was going to plan a birthday party for his adorable daughter, Olivia. As her fifth birthday approached, Max couldn't wait for it to be a day she would remember forever.
Max decided to turn his backyard into a movie theater for Liv and her friends. With the help of Y/N, his wife, they set out to organize the most unforgettable birthday celebration for their little girl.
The theme had been chosen between the two of them. Then, gathering cushions, blankets and stuffed animals, they began the decoration. While Max was hanging lights, Y/N was putting together what would be the screen. All this while her little daughter spent the morning with her grandmother Sophie.
Colorful balloons adorned every corner and a delicious aroma wafted through the air as Max prepared a delicious variety of popcorn, candy, and cupcakes.
Max enlisted the help of his wife,to create adorable movie ticket-shaped invitations, each personalized with the names of Olivia's little friends. They mailed them carefully, excited for the arrival of the little guests.
On the day of the party, the Verstappen house was bustling with laughter and excitement when Olivia's friends came running through the door, dressed like princesses.
The children's eyes sparkled with anticipation as they settled into their seats, munching on popcorn and giggling in anticipation.
Max, ever the gracious host, distributed special bags filled with treats and small toys during a brief intermission. The children couldn't contain their joy and Olivia smiled proudly as she shared her special day with her closest friends.
The afternoon at the movies flew by amidst laughter and joy. As the credits rolled, Max and Y/N gathered the kids for a group photo, capturing the magical memories they had made together. Each child left the Verstappen residence with a heart full of happiness and a bag of goodies, thanking the Verstappen family for the unforgettable birthday adventure.

Glass Houses - [Mini Verstappen Series]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dad!Max Verstappen x Mother!Reader (Established Relationship)
Summary: When Raymond had called you about going and getting lunch, you should have known that something was going on.
Warning(s): Jos Verstappen (Being himself/an asshole), Mixed formatting (Story + Article), Max and Reader get into an argument about Reader going and meeting Jos, Max opens up to Reader about Jos, Max and Reader making up at the end
A/N: Although this chapter, like Stones To Throw, is pretty heavy in terms of topic. These were some of my favorites to write for this series. This is also the longest chapter of this whole series.
Words: 4k
Previous Part → Next Part Mini Verstappen Masterlist
When Raymond had called you about going and getting lunch, you should have known that something was going on. You and Raymond never talked much without Max around.
Max was at Milton Keynes for testing this week before the season started again, Nico was at school for the day and the sitter was taking care of Nikita for the few hours that you would be out of the house. When you showed up at the restaurant, you saw Raymond talking to someone who was sitting across from him.
As you got closer to the table you couldn’t help but stop in your tracks. Raymond was sitting and talking with Max’s father. Who you had never formally met, or talked to at all. But you knew it was him, from the photos online to see the outline of the same man in your driveway 7 months ago. What was Raymond thinking inviting you to lunch with them?
You timidly walked up to the table before hearing Raymond speak, “Y/N,” He said with a slight nod.
“Hey Raymond,” You greeted him, letting your eyes sweep past Jos.
You didn’t want to look at him, mostly because of the stories that you had heard from Max and Victoria. Jos was a good grandfather to Victoria’s boys, but every time she brought it up with Max you could tell that he was getting angry about it. You always had to keep the peace between them when those conversations started.
Jos stood up from his chair reaching his hand out to take yours. You glanced at it and then at him. He was only slightly shorter than Max. Bigger in build from the fact that he wasn’t on an athletic diet like Max, who had to keep his weight down so he would be in top shape for when the season started in a few short weeks.
You didn’t want to shake his hand but did anyway. There had to be a reason as to why you were here. You just hoped it wasn’t to make a deal with the man who Max grew to despise as he grew up.
He gave you a half smile, and although it didn’t seem malicious you couldn’t help but slightly question it.
“Jos.” Max’s father said.
“Y/N.” You replied.
“I know, my son’s wife.” He made a vague gesture towards you. “Where are my lovely grandsons, if you don’t mind me asking.”
You flinched internally at the word lovely. You loved the way Max said that word when he was complimenting you, or commenting on something that was going on. Hearing Max’s father say the same word and what followed after, made knots in your stomach start to form.
“I actually do.” You played with your wedding and engagement ring as you looked at him, not bothering to answer his question.
The more you looked at him, the more you could pick up the little parts of Max’s features that he got from Jos. His nose, his eyes, even though Max’s were a darker shade of blue. Max had a mix of Jos and Sophie’s hair. Luckily Max had gotten the majority of Sophie’s features.
“I was right, wasn’t I Ray?” Jos turned to Raymond. You could see his smile turn up a little more. “Max chose well.”
You had heard from Christian that Raymond and Jos were friends but never gave it much thought before now. You were sure that Max hadn’t told his father about the house, so Jos was keeping tabs on Max through Raymond.
“Is there a reason as to why I’m here?” If there wasn’t then you would like to go about the rest of your day. You still needed to get groceries before going and picking Nico up from school.
“I wanted to meet you,” Jos said before reaching for the glass that was in front of him. “Meet the woman who is going to help mold my grandson’s future in Formula 1.”
“You don’t know that, you have no idea if my son is going to keep karting.” You crossed your legs, your eyes traveling over Jos’ face trying to read into what he wasn’t saying.
“You’re son?” Jos mocked placing his glass back down onto the table.
“Yes.” You fired back. You didn’t need to hear this from him. Jos hadn’t been in Max’s life for a long time, and he had never even known Nico.
You watched as Jos’ shoulders went lax, sitting further back in his chair. His eyes studied you for a moment before he nodded.
“I’m surprised,” He crossed his arms.
“By?” You asked quizzically.
“My son finding someone… who can handle everything.” You wanted to question Jos. What did he mean by that? Everything? Did he mean Max’s career, his schedule, him being away all the time? Him having to raise a child by himself essentially for the first few years of Nico’s life?
You shook your head, “I don’t understand what you mean by everything. It’s not like my life is all that different. I’m married and I have 2 children. What’s so different about-?”
“I meant,” He said, cutting you off. “That you can love my grandson as if he’s your own.”
Your eyes hardened. Of course, you loved Nico as your own. How could you not? He was a sweet boy, who loved playing with his model cars, wanted to ride his bike around the driveway, and was always polite to those around him.
“There is no if, in that, it’s not as if he’s my own. That little boy is my son regardless of what you or other people might think.” You didn’t know Jos like Max did so you had no problem telling him how things were. “I can’t believe that you even thought it would be right to make Max give Nico up. Max is an amazing father to our children.”
You almost wanted to tell him that you felt bad for him. He would never get to see what a great dad Max was to the boys. He would just have to hear about it from other people.
Jos moved forward in his chair almost as if he wanted to lunge at you. You didn’t flinch or move away.
“You think that you have a right to tell me this.” He said defensively.
“I have every right,” You calmly replied. You weren’t going to elaborate. You didn’t need to.
You made sure to meet his eyes and could see the recognition in them. He knew deep down that you were right. But he would never admit it publicly or try to talk to Max about it. He had too much pride for that. He had raised Max to achieve everything that he did and now got to revel in it when anyone asked who pushed Max to succeed. It was like Jos fed off it.
“If you want to keep tabs on Max through Raymond, that is none of my business, but please respect that my husband doesn’t want you near our children.” You moved out of your chair pushing it in. Jos had moved his hands onto the armrest of the chair as if he were going to get up. “My children’s career, be it racing or otherwise, is none of your concern.”
You pushed up your hand to stop him from getting up from his chair. You didn’t want to be there. You should have just left when you saw that it was Jos here with Raymond.
You gave Jos one last look and you could see that whatever he was trying to accomplish by getting you here had failed. You collected your bag from the top of the table and walked away from them both.
You weren’t going to enjoy telling Max about this.

Wife of Formula 1 Driver, Max Verstappen, Y/N Verstappen seen abruptly leaving a restaurant just outside of Saint-Tropez

Tumblr media Tumblr media
A few days ago one of our journalists was in Saint-Tropez and saw Y/N Verstappen, wife of 4 time World Champion Max Verstappen in a restaurant.
Verstappen's wife, Y/N was there for less than half an hour, and she was seen talking to who appeared to be Verstappen's father Jos, and his manager, Raymond Vermeulen. Over the years, people have started to notice that Jos Verstappen hasn't been present at F1 races and is never seen around the paddock anymore.
Rumors have spread that Verstappen banned his father, saying that he was too much of a distraction, making it hard for Max to compete. Verstappen's father was absent for all of Max's championship wins dating all the way back to his first in 2021. Just over a year after Verstappen's oldest son was born. Although, Jos being banned from the paddock has never been confirmed by Max or anyone from the Oracle Red Bull Racing Team.
From what the journalist saw, Y/N didn't seem all that happy to be sharing the same space with Jos. She sat down for a few minutes, didn't order anything, had what seemed to be a harsh conversation with him, and then collected her bag before getting into the navy blue Bentley Bentayga S 2026 that her husband bought her as a birthday present.
Jos Verstappen didn't look pleased after Y/N had left the table and was seen yelling at Vermeulen.
In December of last year, Y/N gave birth to Verstappen's second child, a boy named Nikita, named after racing legend Niki Lauda. Which they announced via. Y/N's Instagram. This is the first time that she has been seen out in public since the birth of her son.

One Day Later - Saint-Jean Cap Ferret
You had been in the kitchen making yourself something to eat after just having put Nikita down for his afternoon nap. Max had come storming into the room with his phone in hand, from the spare bedroom where his racing sim was set up.
"Did you have lunch with my father and Raymond while I was away last week?"
You had stopped what you were doing and just looked at Max. You had never seen him so angry before. His expression was almost unreadable. You had only ever seen him look like this after something had gone wrong during a race.
You put down the knife that you were holding, "Yes." You started to say. You wouldn't really call the encounter that you had with Jos lunch, but to Max that would only be a minor detail. "Raymond called me and asked that I come meet him."
"You went, of course, without telling me." He stated, moving his hands a bit as he spoke.
You knew why Max was saying this. He didn't want Jos around you or Nico remembering how Max was after Jos had visited the house all those months ago. The following days after Max had been rather clingy with you and Nico, wanting to be around you as much as possible.
"I didn't know that Jos was going to be there." You hadn't but you should have assumed that it wouldn't just be a friendly lunch between you and Raymond either.
“You…” He started to say before he cut himself off. “You shouldn’t have gone. Not without me.”
“I don’t need you to protect me Max.” You had always been able to handle things by yourself, that hadn’t changed.
Max walked closer to you, leaving his phone face up on the counter. It was unlocked to show a Daily Mail article, with a photo of you from last week. It was you leaving the restaurant before you had gotten back into your car to go home.
Max didn't walk any closer to you, keeping a fair distance between the two of you. You could see one of his hands slightly twitch as if he was going to reach out for you. He dropped his hand at his side and then ran it through his hair.
"Were the boys with you?" He asked. You watched as his eyes moved no doubt studying your face.
"No," You said with a sigh. You would never have taken the boys with you to meet Raymond alone. Maybe that's why you were so insistent that Sylvie stayed at the house with Nikita. Your instincts told you that it was better not to take Nikita with you. "Nico was at school and I left Nikita with Sylvie so I could go see Raymond," And your father, you thought. "And then went and got groceries before I went to pick up Nico once he got out of school for the day."
You knew better than to take Nico shopping with you, he would always put things in the shopping cart that you didn't need.
Max nodded but didn't say anything else to you. He walked out of the room, leaving his phone, not looking at you at all.
You picked it up and read through the article. There would no doubt be comments on Twitter about you with the hashtag #lionessverstappen. You had grown used to the moniker but never thought that your being protective over Max and the boys would lead to this type of reaction from Max.
You had never had to explain to Max why you did things throughout the entire time that you had been together. There had always been a reason and Max had understood that. Why couldn’t he understand this?
You didn’t follow Max out of the room because you knew if you did it would lead to both of you yelling at each other. So you just stayed in the kitchen and kept cooking. You finished making yourself food and then started the prep for dinner.
As you stared at the plate of food that you had made, you couldn’t help but push it away from you. You didn’t want to eat anything. You knew that you should since you were still breastfeeding but you couldn’t manage it. So you forgo eating and pull out your laptop to answer some work emails.
You glanced out into the backyard to see Max pacing back and forth while talking on the house phone, his hair in complete disarray from running his hand through it so many times.
As you looked at him, you wanted to tell him why you had gone to talk to Raymond.
Max didn’t talk about Jos unless he had to. He was always a sore subject. You thought that going and talking to Raymond would give you more insight into Max’s relationship with Jos. But after you had met Jos yourself, you were quick to realize that you should have waited for Max to talk to you about this when he was ready, even if he never would be.
After having only spent half an hour with Jos. You understood that Jos cared more for himself and the way he looked in the eyes of the media and F1 history than actually being a good parent/grandparent when it came down to it, or when it had anything to do with Max. He wanted people to view him as the person who helped mold a champion. It just happened to be that that Champion was his own flesh and blood.
The sound of the crackle from the baby monitor pulled you out of your thoughts. You left your computer open, rushing to Nikita’s room. Not noticing that Max had watched you leave before he sat down on the couch outside with his hands in his hair. The house phone now lying on the coffee table after he finished talking with the Red Bull team publicist.
Tumblr media
You and Max hadn’t talked to each other all evening. Both of you paid attention to Nico at dinner and as you kept looking over at Max, there were only a few fleeting moments when you could feel him look at you.
This was the first time since you and Max had gotten married that you didn’t feel happy. After just a year of marriage, you had your first fight. Better now than later.
“I don’t want it to be like this.” He said after turning off the faucet in the kitchen after dinner.
You had sent Nico up to his room to finish his homework assignment, and Sylvie had taken Nikita to his room after his 7 pm feeding.
“Like what?”
“I don’t want you to keep things from me.”
“What do you want me to say, Max?” You asked in urnist. “I didn’t tell you that I saw your father. I didn’t want to tell you given what we ended up talking about.” Even if you wanted to justify it by saying that you only meant to talk to Raymond that wouldn’t help.
Max gave you a pensive look, his lips pressed into a firm line.
“I know.” He muttered before you saw his lips quiver. “What did he say?”
You shook your head. “You don’t want to know.”
“Tell me, please.” he pleaded. You shook your head not wanting to tell him before sighing.
“Something about helping mold Nico for Formula 1.” With those words, it was like you momentarily saw the color drain from Max’s face.
“He’s an asshole, and my father… and he-”
Max cut himself off with a sob. You moved closer to him, taking his face in your hands, holding his cheeks, and searching his eyes. Seeing the tears start to form, the storm brewing in the blues of his eyes.
You wanted to tell Max what Jos had said to you but thought it would be better for Max to get his thoughts out first.
“Jos had always pushed me to be the best when it comes to racing, and I, of course, let him because I thought it would make him proud of me.” He paused for a second as if he was trying to think of the right way to say something. “The only good thing he ever did for me was show me what it truly takes to be a father and love your children unconditionally.” He took in a sharp breath.
Max had pulled your hands away from his face. It was as if he needed the space to be able to get those final few thoughts out.
“There were always strings attached when it came to Jos being proud of me. If I wasn’t doing well, then he wasn’t proud of me. I know now, from the boys, that if you truly love your children, you put their interests first, always.”
That was why Max had such a hard time when Nico started karting. It was what Nico wanted at the time, and what he was still passionate about even now, but Max didn’t want to make Nico feel like, if he wasn’t doing well he wouldn’t be proud of him.
“I don’t want to feel as if he defines me, because I know that I’m nothing like him. But I can’t help it at times.” You didn’t want to keep telling Max that he was nothing like Jos. Being like Jos would always be Max’s biggest fear, and the only way that he would be able to get over it was for him to work through it. He would need you for that reassurance until the boys were old enough to be able to tell Max themselves that he had done the best that he could for them.
“I wanted to keep you away from him, so you wouldn’t see the parts of me that I get from him.” Max continued to say. “I can’t lose you, not when I’m grateful for all of the things that you have done for me, and our family.”
“You won’t lose me, I won’t let you.” You promised him.
Max was quick to drop his head afterward. “We don’t fight.”
It was true, you and Max didn’t have arguments. You weren’t those types of people.
“Maybe not, but that doesn’t mean that we won’t disagree on things in the future.” You said.
Max had held his hands out to you facing his palms out, inviting you to touch him. Offering himself up to you.
You moved closer to him, taking his hands in yours. “It matters that we worked it out.” He moved closer before resting his forehead against yours. “That we always find a solution, together.”
“We will.”
“I’m sorry, for getting upset with you.” He said.
“I’m sorry for not telling you that I went to lunch with Raymond and that Jos was there as well. I should have told you right after it happened.”
“It’s okay Schat,” Out of all of Max’s pet names for you that was the one he used the least. “I know you were only doing what you thought you needed to.”
“What did you say to him?” He asked muttering the words into your hair. Max was looking past you a little lost in thought.
You let out a small sigh, “I told him to respect that you don’t want him around the boys, and that Nico’s career wasn’t any of his concern.”
With those words, it put the conversation to rest. Max met your eyes, and you could see his shoulders relax.
Max pressed his lips to your forehead, and then your cheek. You let him hold you for a moment, running your fingers over his back as you felt his shoulders relax further. You slotted your head against his shoulder.
As you stood there in each other's arms the baby monitor crackled awake with the sound of Nikita fussing. You pulled back from Max before he stopped you.
“I’ll get him.” Max reached up and cupped your cheek before leaving you in the kitchen to calm him. You ended up pushing in the kitchen chairs that weren’t tucked under the counter.
“Come, Nikita, come to Papa.” You heard over the baby monitor as you moved to sit in the living room. You could hear Nikita lightly fussing but it ended rather quickly.
You moved onto the couch taking the cashmere blanket that was hanging off the edge and laying it over your legs before you saw Max come back into the room with Nikita lying against his shoulder.
You didn’t move from your sport, instead you stayed there watching Max interact with the baby, as he gave him all of his attention. Nico had come into the living room, shoving the papers from his homework into his bag. He ended up climbing onto the couch before crawling over to you sitting in your lap, and laying his head on your shoulder.
Nico had gotten extra clingy with you now that Nikita was around. He wanted to always have your attention when he could even if you were trying to change Nikita’s diaper or make sure that Nikita wasn’t being fussy. It had taken a bit of time but eventually, Nico started to understand that you were paying more attention to Nikita because he was a baby, not because Nico had been replaced.
Max eventually joined you and Nico on the couch with Nikita tucked into his arms. You spend a little longer in the living room with them until Nico's head grew heavy against your shoulder after he fell asleep. You switch with Max, him taking Nico and putting him to bed and you taking Nikita, putting him in the bassinet that was in the master bedroom.
Eventuality both you and Max make it to bed, he can't seem to let you go once you’re under the covers sharing a few kisses before your eyes are too heavy to stay open. He pulled you flush against him, your head over his chest, his hands finding any bare skin that he could feel without the fabric of one of his shirts getting in his way.
“I love you.” You mutter into his chest. You need him to know that through every argument and all the time spent away from one another, you still love him and will always be there for him.
“Ik houd ook van jou, mijn leeuwin.” You can tell from the tone in Max’s voice that he’s almost asleep but not quite there yet. You feel one of his hands move out from under the shirt that you’re wearing before he reaches to take your hand in his. He kisses the back of your hand and then interlocks your fingers together placing it on the vacant part of his chest.

slow mornings | quinn hughes
a little dad!quinn blurb for your sunday evening <3
Tumblr media
The house was quiet. Too quiet for a Saturday morning.
Usually, Saturday mornings started early with Sophie climbing into Quinn and I's bed. This morning, though, I was the only one laying under the duvet. As I racked my brain, trying to remember if there was a reason I had been abandoned in the bed, I remembered that I'd never seen Quinn last night. He was supposed to get home after midnight, flying home from a five-day road trip.
The panic began to set in when I realized that I had no messages from Quinn, his phone wasn't on his bedside table, and -- most importantly -- he wasn't lying in bed next to me. Flinging the covers off, I made my way down the hall to Sophie's room, where I discovered that she too was missing. Deciding to venture downstairs, I could hear the faint sounds of music coming from the living room.
As I entered, my heart swelled at the sight in front of me. Laying on the couch, both asleep, was Sophie and Quinn. Sophie was cuddled into her dad's side and didn't appear to be waking up anytime soon.
I quickly snapped a picture of the two of them before leaning down and placing a kiss to the top of Quinn's head. His eyes fluttered open and a lazy grin came over his features.
"Hey," he mumbled. "Can I have a real kiss?"
I smiled at his request.
"You want me to give you a kiss after you abandoned me in our bed?"
He just continued smiling at me, knowing that I'd give in eventually. And I did, leaning back down to give Quinn a 'real kiss' before walking around the couch and sitting on the unoccupied side of Quinn's body. I leaned onto his side as his arm came to wrap around my waist. I was looking at the movie currently playing on the tv; Winnie the Pooh was currently one of Soph's favorites. She especially loved Eeyore.
"Eeyore's actually such an underrated character," Quinn said, as if he could read my mind.
"You and Soph are too much alike," I replied, earning a nudge from my husband.
"Who's your favorite then?"
I didn't reply, which was an answer enough for Quinn.
"There's nothing wrong with liking Eeyore, you know. His grumpiness is funny. And realistic."
"Fair point."
We both laid in comfortable silence for a while, watching the children’s movie, when I figured I’d bring up the potentially touchy subject of Quinn’s road trip, during which they’d lost two games and won one.
"How was the trip?"
The involuntary sigh that escaped his lips was all I really needed to know. Quinn had already confided in me about how frustrating it was for his team to be having such an awful season, especially compared to Jack's, but to also have to see so many of his teammates and people he considered to be good friends get traded away. He didn't talk about it in front of his parents or his brothers, specifically Jack, because he didn't want to make everyone listen to his pity party when he knew they really just wanted to be basking in the glory of Jack's first really good season in the NHL.
"It sucked," Quinn admitted, his arm gripping my waist a little tighter. “But it’s over now, so it’s whatever.”
I looked up to him, communicating with just my look that it, in fact, wasn’t whatever.
“Fine, fine. It just wasn’t fun overall. I didn’t play very well, and I missed you guys.”
Quinn had a pout on his face when I looked up at him. I couldn’t help myself but to lean up and kiss his jaw.
“We missed you too,” I informed him. “Soph watched every single minute of every game.”
As if she could hear us mention her name in her sleep, Sophie stirred. Wiggling around and rubbing her eyes. Upon her opening her eyes fully, she looked at Quinn, then at me, and did a double take back to Quinn, letting out a little gasp.
“Daddy!” she squealed and wrapped her arms around Quinn’s neck. Quinn chuckled but pulled her closer to his chest.
“Hey sweetheart. Have a good nap?”
The massive smile on Sophie’s face and the hands that were still clutching onto Quinn’s shirt were enough indication that she was more preoccupied with her father than to answer his question.
“Daddy, are you home now?”
The grin that graced Quinn’s features wavered slightly. While Soph was asking if Quinn was home, she was really asking if he was going to stay home.
“No baby, not yet.  I’m home this week, and then I’m going to see Uncle Trevor.”
She tried to mask her disappointment. After a moment, though, her features changed to one of curiosity and excitement.
“Oh. But can you ask him to bring me some candy? He always brings me candy when you see him,” she informed us.
I raised an eyebrow and side-eyed Quinn, who looked guilty.
“Uncle Trevor always brings you candy?”
“Yes!” she exclaimed. “Daddy brings it, but Uncle Trevor gives it to him to give to me.”
“Ah, I see.”
I decided to leave the subject of Trevor and Quinn conspiring to sneak our kid candy another time. Right now, though, I was going to spend the morning watching Disney movies.

BIRDS OF A FEATHER
Pairing: 𝙹𝚘𝚎 𝚋𝚞𝚛𝚛𝚘𝚠 𝚡 𝚋𝚕𝚊𝚌𝚔 𝚏𝚎𝚖𝚒𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚎 𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚍𝚎𝚛
Summery:you and your husband Joe finds out that you’re pregnant again with your six child ,your husband Joe does everything thing he can to make sure you’re comfortable during your pregnancy and the events of your pregnancy.
Warning: fluffy & cussing (std is mentioned)
Word count: 3,911
(Part I)
You wake up, stretch your arms, and yawn. Next to you was your husband Joe who was sleeping, as you watched him sleep you place a kiss on his lip, while watch him sleep.
you get out of bed in your all-black silk pajamas which were a matching set, that you bought for you and your husband, it’s a button-up top and shorts.
both shorts and button top had white stitched in them at the end and they both had your initials stitched into the set.
As you get up and slip on your cream Uggs that Joe had brought for the both of y’all. You walk in and enter the bathroom.
open a pregnancy test and pee in the cup and put the pregnancy test in the cup, while waiting for the test results you wash your hands brush your teeth, and do your skin care routine.
When you're finished you take the clear blue pregnancy test out of the cup, you look at the results with a shocked face and your hands over your mouth “ah Joseph you won’t believe this” you say screaming out loud.
“what the hell is going on,” Joe says. Your scream had woken him up from his sleep. Joe got up out the bed, put his cream Uggs on, and walked in the bathroom.
placing a passionate kiss on your cheeks “Good morning baby” he says while grabbing you from behind and hugging you.
He lifts up your hands while giving them a soft rub ,while looking at them,he looks at your right hand .
To his surprise he sees the clear blue pregnancy test in your hand.
”BABY YOUR PREGNANT,” he said in a shocked tone “Yes baby we’re having another baby, “ you say “Well this is just a big ass family” he teased turning you around and picking up off your feet and giving you a passionate kiss on your lips, hugging you once more, he smiled in your face, you smile back then put your head in the creek of his neck placing a soft kiss on his neck.
“ Well, I guess we have to tell the kids that they are expecting another baby brother or sister, “ you say “Yeah let’s go tell them,” Joe says. Before walking out of the room Joe brushed his teeth and used the bathroom.
y'all left your bedroom walking all the downstairs into the living room , with the pregnancy in your right hand in , as soon yall get downstairs yall ,you call the kids downstairs “Joanna,Joseph, Christopher ,Gracelyn, Sophie.!! Come downstairs me and your dad have to tell y'all something !!” You say as they make their way downstairs in the living room.
Moments later the kids are downstairs and y’all were all sitting in the living room on the couches, you and your husband were sitting on a couch across from your kids “we just found out today “ you say hold up the pregnancy test in your hand in front of your kids “and I and your father wanted to tell y'all that we’re expecting to have another baby so yall might have a baby brother or sister soon”.
KIDS POV:
Christopher:I was in my room just waking up ,brushed my teeth then got on my game .
When I heard my mom say” Joanna, Joseph Christopher, Gracelyn, Sophie. come downstairs me and your dad have to tell y'all something “what could they possibly want, what was so important that they had to disturb me?
I went downstairs to see what mom and dad wanted and what was so important , meeting them down stairs in the living room,as I sat down on the couch waiting for my other siblings to show up on the couch next to me,moments later my sisters and brother made their way down stairs.
Joanna and Joseph:we were in our room. I was watching tv while on my bed laying down with my feet in the air and my body facing the tv ,watching my favorite tv show and my twin brother Joseph was on his phone in his gaming chair texting in his friend group chat.
All of a sudden our parents called our names “what could mom and dad possibly want “ Joseph say” Right what could they possibly want to ruin my good show I was watching” I say.
We made our way downstairs with Sophie and Gracelyn behind us coming downstairs,moments later we all sitting in the living room waiting for what mom and dad had to say to us.
Sophie: I was in my room playing with my baby dolls when mom and dad called me and sisters and brothers to come downstairs in the living room “mommy and daddy I’m coming “I say with excitement, following Gracelyn Joanna and Joseph downstairs in front of me
As we all walk down stairs, as we got downstairs we saw Chris in the living room sitting on the couch across from mom and dad, we sat next to Chris on the couch waiting for what mom and dad were going to say.
Gracelyn: I was in my room practicing my cheerleading skills until ,I heard Mom andDad, called me and my siblings names, saying to come downstairs , they needed to tell us something.
“Umm yes ma’am, I’m coming downstairs, “I say as I leaving from out of my room Following Joanna and Joseph downstairs, My little sister followed behind me, making our way to the living room, to see what my mom and dad wanted to tell us, we sat down next to each other to see Chris who was already there in the living room, waiting for what mom and dad had to say
“we just found out todaymom say while holding up a PREGNANCY TEST “no way mom and dad are pregnant again” I thought to myself “six kids are you kidding they could have just had me first and I would be the only child “ I thought to myself ,looking at my mom and dad,blinking and staring at them constantly.
”So you might be expecting to have another baby brother or sister “mom said,after constantly blinking and staring I looked at Chris ,Chris was staring at me ,looking at me like I’m crazy, his thumb was on his jawline and his index finger was on his cheek, he looked confused.
while the twins walked out the living saying “not another baby”and Sophie dancing and singing “I’m going to have another sister or brother yayy”.
Christopher: I was waiting for what mom and Dad to say the news they had for us, until I heard Mom say “We just found out today “holding a pregnancy test in her hand, a PREGNANCY TEST! Me and I look at each other crazy with a confused look on our faces.
while mom finished her sentence “so yall might have a baby brother or sister soon” still looking crazy and confused with my thumb on my jawline and my index finger on my cheek of my face looking back at Gracelyn she was confused too, I was sure we were thinking the same thing.
”another baby,they could have just stopped at me and Gracelyn would could been the only two “ I thought to myself still confused looking back at mom and dad,the twins leaving out the living room say”not another baby “
Sophie singing and dancing “I’m going to have another sister or brother” I get up going back to my room Gracelyn following right behind me to her room , I opened the door, slamming it closed
“HEY WE DON’T SLAM DOORS CLOSED AROUND HERE “ dad yelled “sorry dad “ I say.
All I could think about was mom and dad having another baby “6 freaking children “ I thought repeatedly
END OF KIDS POV
Still sitting in the living not surprised by you’re kids reaction of course they would react to the pregnancy test that way, (for god sakes you had six kids well almost)
”well that was not surprising “ you say “well what else did you expect,very un surprised “ Joe said “ at least Sophie is happy,right huh soph” you say “ I can’t believe I’m having a baby brother or sister yay “ Sophie says “ yeah daddy and mommy are having another baby “Joe says.
All the kids were leaving out of the living annoyed and confused except for Sophie because she was still dancing and excited about having another baby.
moments later you hear a door slammed “HEY WE DON’T SLAM DOOR CLOSED AROUND HERE “ Joe says “sorry dad “ Chris says .
Chris was the oldest so of course you would get this reaction out of him,he was the first born , when he first found out you were pregnant with Gracelyn he was happy to have a second sibling, but when he found out you were having twins he was not so happy about that.
He was the only child of course but all that had changed ,he wasn’t the one child anymore,so you understand why he would act this way.”
I understand he’s upset that he’s having a another sibling for the fifth time,and that he’s not the only child anymore, but shouldn’t be taking his anger out by slamming doors around here “ Joe says as we got up from the couch in the living room , Joe helping you up from the couch with his hand.
“ I know baby,but you got to give him a breather,he’s the first born he’s allowed to act like this for god sake he has 4 siblings and one on the way “you say as you walk your way to the kitchen to make breakfast.
“You’re right baby he’s the big brother he’s allowed to act this way,he’s the big brother ,so I’m sure he can handle the six child and be a big brother again “Joe says walking in the kitchen to you.
wrapping his hands around you,one hand on your waist and the other hand or your wrist as he helps to mix the pancakes mix together,you both begin to stir together.
Joe kisses you on your cheek while helping you prepare breakfast.a slight smile forms from your lips ,while you continue cooking with Joe .
Minutes later you and Joe are preparing breakfast for your kids “breakfast is ready “you say while Joe put the plates on the table ,filled with breakfast on the plates,it had pancakes,egg, French toast and turkey bacon on the plates and grits as option if you want it if you were still hungry for seconds.
your kids come downstairs from their rooms and from whatever they were doing and eat their breakfast, you finish eating breakfast with your family.
Later when you get ready for work you start by taking a shower,you turn on the hot water letting the water run.
You began to take off your clothes, you take your unbuttoned your shirt,take your shorts ,then your bra then your panties ,you walk into the shower,grabbed the loofah of the shower rack, you grab the lavender dove wash bottle and pour the soap on the loofah,you start to wash yourself.
Moments later you step out of the shower, turning the shower off the water,then grabbing the towel, wrapping the towel around your body.
You blow dry your wet curls,while combing them out,you finish blow drying your hair,plugging up the flat iron,then start to straighten your hair,when you are finished you start to put your clothes on.
You put on your light blue strapless bra with your matching panties,putting on your white short sleeve blouse which had ruffles on the end of the sleeves and on the collar the blouse was button up,you put on your black suited pants,you began to put on your makeup,first prepare your face with primer ,concealer, then foundation,light blush,little bit of eye shadow ,you curl your eyelashes , then apply your red lipstick.
After doing your makeup you look at yourself in the mirror,hazel eyes shining so beautifully and you look stunning as ever.
You hear knocking on the door “hey babe it’s me, I’m about to lea-“ Joe says as he gets cut off by how gorgeous you look,he drops dead stare at you ,he walks up to you giving you a passionate kiss on your lips ,while grabbing your ass,wrapping his other arm around your waist pulling you closer .

END OF JOE POVS
NINE WEEKS LATER
you were nine weeks pregnant with the baby.
It was midnight,You and Joe were in the living room together, there was a little bit of a light shining through.
Joe's hands were wrapped around you ,his hands roaming your body ,one hand at the bottom of your belly and the other rubbing the top,as his lips through trials of kisses for your jawline to your collarbone, worshiping your body.
You laugh and giggle while he continues to kiss your body, when got to your belly he starts talking to the baby. “Hi baby,it your daddy,can’t wait to meet you,my little angel “Joe says
Birds in the feather by Billie Eilish playing in the background as Joe began to twirl you around with one hand . “
“Birds of a feather, we should stick together, I know
I said I'd never think I wasn't better alone
Can't change the weather, might not be forever
But if it's forever, it's even better” Billie Eillish singing
ONE YEAR LATER
“And I don't know what I'm crying for
I don't think I could love you more
It might not be long, but baby, I
I'll love you 'til the day that I die”Billie Eillish sings
“'Til the day that I die
'Til the light leaves my eyes
'Til the day that I die”Billie Eillish continues to sing
One year later you’re in the living room again,this time you had your baby.
Hold your baby in your arms hands while Joe hugs you from behind “hi baby girl “ you and Joe say talking to your baby while you hold her in your hand .
Joe gives you a twirl while you hold the baby in your hands ,giving you a kiss on the forehead.
While Sophie was playing with her baby dolls,Chris,Gracelyn and the twins were upstairs looking from the balcony with smiles on their faces.
watching you and Joe in the living room as Joe began to slowly sway with you in his arms while holding you and the baby,as you hold your baby in your arms,as you both smile.

Hi bestie! I have an idea
I love and miss dad Anthony so so much I have an idea for him 🥹🥹🥹
They have little Sophie and Edmund and they’re in Aubrey Hall for a few weeks and reader faints and they find out they’re having another baby 🤍🤍🤍
A/n: Ah I’m so sorry for missing this! It’s so cute too!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was nice to visit Aubrey Hall with the twins, Anthony loved to show off Sophie and Edmund and they loved to see the others and today wasn’t any different.
“Are you sure love, you haven’t been feeling well. Maybe we should head home where you can rest, I’ll grab the twins and-.”
“Anthony, enough.” You hissed grabbing ahold of your husbands arm.
“Owe…you’re very strong.” Anthony flinched as you two walked towards the home, his mother stepping out with a large smile.
“It’s so lovely to see you two again, and how are my two favorite grandchildren.”
Anthony huffed wrinkling his nose as he wrapped his arms around your waist. “They are her only grandchildren.”
“Anthony!”
“Stop hitting me!”
Sipping at your tea, you felt your head pounding and while you would hate to admit it you knew that your husband was right.
“I think I’m going to get some fresh air.”
Standing up you have Anthony a forced smile though you knees buckled beneath you and after that everything went black.
When you woke up, Anthony was hovering over you with a concerned look on his face. It looked like your husband was near tears as he clutched your hand tightly.
“Thank god you are alright.” Grabbing your hand he brought it to his lips.
Wincing, you sag up feeling a wave of nausea for a moment. “What happened.”
“You fainted, you.” Shaking his head he then gave you a smile. “But I have wonderful news.”
Weaving your fingers through his it was hard not to return the smile. “What is it?”
“You’re pregnant! It is the reason why you are pregnant.” Anthony then placed his hand on your stomach. “I can not wait.”

I don't think Greek Mythology retellings/adaptions/inspired/etc. are necessarily "evil"...but I DO think people REALLY need to understand that there's a huge difference between the actual mythology and certain media.
I feel like people have to basically do a "Fandom ___" to say the different versions. Like "PJO ___", "Hades game ___", "TSOA ___". For it to be understood that these depictions are DIFFERENT. I'm saying this as someone who grew up reading PJO and still has a soft spot for it. But as someone who really loves Greek Mythology as well, I sometimes get really SAD.
I'm going to use the comparison of Howl's Moving Castle with it's Book Vs. Movie. I enjoy both!!! But they are honestly very different. In the movie there is no "sister swap", Markle isn't a young teenager, Sophie doesn't throw weed killer at Howl, and many more moments. But I enjoy both because even though there are changes they still keep components that are ingrained into the characters!
In some Greek Myth retellings/adaptations/stories/etc., characters are...SO different from the source material. That's fine...Choose what you want with your story... But folks should know that the modern adaptations are NOT the source material!!!
It bothers me that a lot of these wonderful myths and stories are twisted up and seen so differently because of a modern version of them. You can have that character be "awful" or a certain way in your story. But I almost feel that as fans, it's not good to generalize them or see it as "This is the truth". People are hating the mythological figure when it's only in that interpretation they are like that.
In PJO, Ares is "Zeus' favorite", isn't a good dad, a misogynist, etc. The actual myths? One of his Epithets is LITERALLY "Feasted by Women", in the Iliad everybody basically bullies him with Zeus literally saying he hates him. He cries when he learns one of his sons is killed in the war. He literally kills someone about to rape his daughter. Ares isn't perfect but it makes me sad with how he's viewed and talked about when it's only in PJO he's like that. Same with Dionysus. Read the Bacchae, you'll love it.
In Lore Olympus, Apollo rapes Persephone (noticing the fact that modern takes on the myths add rapes where there never were hmmmmm) when he never did in any of the myths.
In TSOA, Thetis is cruel when in the Iliad, she is such a loving mother to Achilles. She grieved alongside her son over Patroclus. Also with Agamemnon. In Ipheginia at Aulis, Agamemnon is a MESS. He adored his children.
In Circe, Odysseus is viewed as a selfish man who ONLY hurts others and doesn't care about his family when that is LITERALLY his one consistent character trait. HE is actually the one who is the victim of rape. Circe was never raped.
Medusa is only a victim in Ovid's, a Roman man, works. Not in GREEK mythology. She was just a cool monster. Leave Perseus alone. Poseidon and Medusa actually had a consensual relationship in Greek Mythology!
These adaptations/retellings/inspired by/etc. whatever anybody wants to call them, are not the real myths! They may be similar in some ways but to just generalize them or hate the deity/mythological figure because of something they did in the new media feels fucked up!
You can enjoy these new stories. There's nothing wrong with that!!! But know they're not the real myths. Maybe even label it as "I hate ____'s version of ____". As that makes it clear what version you're talking about.

Between the Lines - pt. I
Tumblr media
tbhc!alex x reader this chapter is bascially a slow burn, fluffy vibe charged w some sexual tension between the reader who is in college n our beloved alix who becomes her editor. warnings: age gap, alex is 33, reader is in her 20's, cursing, alcohol.
In the heart of the university campus, a quaint café served as a haven for students. Seated at a cozy corner table Y/N and her best friend, Sophie, found comfort in the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the hum of hushed conversations.
The soft glow of pendant lights cast a warm ambiance over mismatched wooden furniture, creating a warm atmosphere. Amidst the rustling of students immersed in textbooks and the distant murmur of espresso machines, Y/N and Sophie navigated the labyrinth of academia.
"Ugh, I suck," you groaned, holding your English lit paper in your hands.
"You don't," said Sophia.
"I got a C, Soph."
"Didn’t you do this on three hours of sleep?" she looked at you.
"Yeah," you grumbled.
"You'll do better next time."
"Ugh. I know. It's just such a blow to my confidence," you said, sipping on your ginger tea.
"I know. But this grade doesn't determine your skills. You're great at writing," she said, swirling her spoon in her iced coffee.
"Well. That's debatable," you replied.
She glared at you.
"Fine, fine. I'll stop talking shit about myself," you rolled your eyes.
"Good." She said pleased with your answer.
You scanned the coffee shop and saw students going about their normal routines. Some of them were hurrying to get to their lectures on time. Others were lazing around in their seats, talking to their friends. Chatter filled the room as you let out a stressed out sigh. You sulked, not knowing how you were gonna recover from this grade.
"Anyway, as I was telling you. I asked my dad about Mr. Turner. He said you can give him a call and ask him to check out your novel."
"Oh god,” you groaned. “I mean-thank you so much. I don't wanna seem ungrateful, I just-I don't know. It feels awkward showing someone my short novel. If you can even call it that,” you rambled.
"I get it. I get embarrassed when I show my tutor my paintings. And he always has something to say," she said, rolling her eyes.
"Soph, your paintings are incredible. And your guy is good."
"That's true," she said, a light blush coloring her cheeks.
You smiled at her. You loved your best friend. You met in high school and became close friends senior year. You used to spend hours at each other's places, watching shows and mulling over the characters. She was one of the few people who was there for you through thick and thin and you weren't afraid to show your vulnerable side to her, insecurities and all.
"I'll send you his phone number and you can contact him whenever."
"Okay. Will do." You said, scrunching your face.
"If you don't do it, I will.”
"Ugh, I'll do it, I promise."
"I'll hold you to it."
"I can't wait to go out on Friday. I need to get drunk and forget," you groaned.
"Same. We've been too stressed out lately. We need to let loose," Sophie added.
You and Sophie had a tradition. No matter the circumstances you always went out on the weekend. You often drank alcohol at your favorite bar or club and danced until your feet were numb and your hearts were pounding. Then you stumbled to one of your dorms and ate junk food or watched a shitty movie.
Sophie looked down at her phone, her clock reading 1:47 PM.
"Well, I have to run. I have Literary Criticism soon,” she remarked.
"With Mr. spits when he talks?" you replied.
"That's the one," she said, letting out an exaggerated sigh.
You chuckled. "Good luck."
"I’ll see you later," she leaned down, giving you a quick kiss on the cheek.
You, on the other hand, finished your lectures for the day. Your Mondays weren't as rough, consisting of only two lectures in the morning and god, were you thankful for that.
Your eyes darted to your phone screen, after you received a notification from Sophie.
Alexander Turner
+378 09 998 890
Anxiety gnawed at you. You took a deep breath and told yourself It’s fine. He gets paid for this kind of job. He’s probably seen worse writing.
You decided to be brave and text him as there's no way you were calling him.
Hello Mr. Turner. Peter Herring recommended you as an editor. I am currently working on a short novel and I am interested in hiring you. Would you be interested in that? Thank you in advance.
You typed it out, reading it again. You erased the words ‘short novel’ leaving it blank.
"Ugh." You said out loud. You decided to retype it and send it without thinking too much, letting out a sigh of relief.
As you were scrolling on your phone, it suddenly started vibrating and a number appeared. It read Mr. Turner.
Oh god. Why the hell is he calling me? Doesn’t this guy know how to text?
You answered your phone hesitantly, bringing it to your ear.
"Hello?" you said.
"Hi." a low voice spoke.
"Um. Is this Mr. Turner?"
"Yeah. What's your name, love? You didn't introduce yourself," he said in a thick British accent.
"Oh-um, I'm (Y/N)."
"Alright, (Y/N). You're interested in hiring an editor, is that correct?"
"Yes."
"Great. How's Wednesday evening work for you? 7pm, my office? We can discuss the details then."
"Um, Wednesday evening? Yeah I'm good with that," you said.
"Alright. I'll send you my address then. Don't forget your novel," he added.
"Yes. Thank you," you sputtered.
And with that he hung up the phone. You stood there bewildered at this phone call. You just agreed to go to this random man's office on a Wednesday. You had no idea he was british. Why didn't Soph tell you he was british?
Well I guess you have an editor now.
*
In the sanctuary of your dormitory, you and Sophie nestled on your sofa as you found comfort beneath your favorite blanket.
"I had no idea he was british! His accent was so thick Soph. Like, I had never heard it before."
Sophie was laughing at you. "I thought I mentioned it."
"Well you didn't. Nothing could have prepared me for that. He was so swift and straight to the point. Skipped all the usual bullshit."
"Yep, that's Turner for you," she replied.
"How did your dad meet him again?" you inquired.
"Oh, he was his student in college. Mr. Turner lived in London for a few years and then moved here after my dad recommended him for this sort of writing position," she shrugged.
"Huh. That's interesting," you said. "Hey, what does this guy look like?" you asked, your curiosity peaking.
"Hmm. Let me show you his Facebook," she said.
"His Facebook?" you asked, furrowing your brows in confusion.
"What? He doesn't have Instagram. He's in his 30s." she added.
"Right," you nodded. You got up and sat next to her, both of you staring at her phone. She found his Facebook page and clicked on his photos.
"He's kinda cute," you said, breaking the silence. Sophie chuckled at your reaction. "He’s good looking," she shrugged.
He had big brown eyes and medium length hair that went past his ears, down to the nape of his neck. His beard seemed neat and trimmed.
"Don't get any ideas now," she looked at you, teasing. "I'm not. I want to see how he looks like so I'm not completely blind sided when I get there."
"Anyway," you continued. "Do you wanna sleep over tonight? My roomie's not here."
"Oh my gosh, yes. I'll go grab my stuff," she exclaimed. "Okay," you said in a singsong and slumped down on your sofa, stretching out your legs.
You couldn't help but feel jittery for Wednesday. You let your thoughts wander for a little, wondering what he was like.
*
The week was passing quickly, and it was finally Wednesday. You were preparing to leave and go to Mr. Turner's place. To say you were a little nervous would be an understatement. Your palms were sweaty, and you weren't sure what you were wearing was appropriate.
You questioned if you looked like you were trying too hard as you opted for baggy brown suit pants and a red shirt with long sleeves.
Ugh. I'm sure he doesn't give a rat's ass about what I'm wearing.
As you put on your big leather jacket and wrapped a black scarf around your neck, the words he spoke echoed in your mind. "Don't forget your novel." As you went back to your room, you made sure to grab your novel and quickly stuffed it into your tote bag as well as your dorm keys. You couldn't help but wonder if any of his clients had ever forgotten theirs.
You decided to take the bus to his office and followed the instructions he texted you.
102 Ave Street. Nr. 32. If you have difficulties finding it, call me.
As you strolled around the neighborhood, you spotted a house with the number 32. You walked past his charming little garden and couldn't help but admire how nicely maintained it was.
Now, standing in front of his door, a mix of excitement and nerves crept over you. Unsure of whether to give a knock or press the doorbell, anticipation filled the air. You decided to knock.
As you took a moment to take in your surroundings, the sound of the door being opened reached your ears. Stepping into the view was a figure of a pale man.
"Uh, hello," you said, extending your hand for him to shake. "Good evening," he said, a slight awkward smile on his face. He glanced down at your hand for a few seconds before finally reaching out to shake it.
"It's nice to meet you, Mr. Turner," you said, maintaining the handshake. "Likewise. Please, come inside and feel at home," he invited you.
"Thank you," you quietly replied as you stepped into his house, though a slight feeling of uncertainty lingered. It almost felt like intruding. "This way to my office," he directed, gesturing towards the left.
"Would you like a drink? Coffee or tea?" he asked. "Uh, tea would be fine. Thanks."
As you walked into his office, you settled into one of the inviting chairs positioned near his desk. Your gaze wandered to the oak wood bookcase that adorned the room, its shelves overflowing with a collection of books. Your eyes were drawn to the carefully placed plants that created a warm and inviting atmosphere. You wondered if anyone else lived in this house, although it seemed empty by the looks of it.
"Here you go," he interrupted your thoughts, setting down a mug with hot tea. "I brought you ginger. I don't know if you like it or not," he said with a serious tone. "Oh, that's my favorite actually," you said, smiling awkwardly.
"Great. Careful, it's hot," he looked at you and gave you a half smile. You blushed a little and brought the mug to your mouth, taking a sip. "So, did you bring your novel?" he said, staring at you.
You tried to speak and swallow at the same time and ended up choking on your drink. You coughed for a few minutes as Alex stared at you, his face laced with concern.
"Erm.." he shifted so he could tap your back. "Try to look up. It should help," he said.
You followed his instructions and looked up at the ceiling, coughing. Your throat seemed to calm down.
"S-sorry," you barely managed to say. "No worries. You alright?"
"Yes," you exhaled and took out the novel, handing it to him, trying to move past the awkward situation. "Thank you," he muttered.
He took your novel and opened it, setting it down on the desk. Your legs were only a few centimeters away from each other. You shifted slightly, not wanting to invade his personal space.
You realized he hadn't asked you to send him your novel and wondered if you had made a mistake. Perhaps you should have asked him about it.
"Um... should I have sent a digital copy of it to you?" you questioned. "No, it's quite alright. I prefer reading it in front of my clients," he said, his gaze not leaving the book.
You felt awkward, to say the least. It wasn’t pleasant having someone read your work right in front of you. Especially when you thought editors usually familiarize themselves with your work beforehand.
You fumbled with your fingers, unsure what to do with yourself. Bringing the hot mug to your lips, you took a few sips. Your eyes wandered around the room and settled on Alex. He looked like he was studying your work, wearing a serious expression on his face, his eyebrows furrowed.
He looked handsome. When a few strands of hair fell on his face, he tucked them behind his ear. You felt your cheeks heat up and looked away before he could catch you staring.
As you anxiously awaited his response, doubts clouded your mind about whether any of the sentences you wrote were coherent. You nervously retrieved your phone from your bag, feeling the clamminess on your palms. However, before you could reach out to a friend, he abruptly spoke up.
“S’good,” he looked up at you nodding. “Really? But you didn’t read that much.." you weren't sure what to say.
“I don’t need to. I can see that it’s straightforward and has a clear direction. It’s a bit wordy though and needs some work.” He added.
“Oh, okay,” you nodded. He noticed you slumped a little and found it endearing. He had to remind himself of your age and sensitivity.
“But don’t fret. It’s nothing we can’t fix,” he said, a slight smile tugging at his lips. “Right,” you smiled politely. You looked at him for a split-second and then glanced down at your hands.
“Well. I need to read the rest of your novel now. I only wanted to give you a clear picture of what we were gonna do in the upcoming weeks and how this works,” you nodded.
“For now we can meet once every two weeks and then see how your work progresses. Does Wednesday work for you, around this time?” “Uh-yes. I can do that.”
“Perfect. I want to recommend two books for you to read that could help you with your writing. Could you grab “On Writing”, by Stephen King from the bookshelf there?” he pointed to a book with a brown hardcover.
You stood up and spotted the book he was talking about. “This one?” you asked. “Yes. And also the “Bird by Bird” on your left.” You looked around but didn’t see the book he was talking about.
He stood up, approaching you, his chest pressing lightly against your back. His hand reached out just above your head, and a tantalizing scent reached your nose. The subtle blend of cigarette smoke and lavender emerged from his clothing.
“That’s your right,” he said behind you, amused. “Oh, right,” you chuckled awkwardly.
He got back to his desk and handed you the book, your fingers grazing his.
“You don’t need to read these in over a week. This isn’t school,” he chuckled. “But they should help you improve and explore different methods of writing.”
“Thank you, Mr. Turner,” you mumbled. “Oh, feel free to call me Alex,” he said. “Okay. Alex,” you replied.
You felt strange saying his name in such a casual manner. It felt like you were talking to a friend your age, not a 30 something year old accomplished editor and god knows what else.
“Oh uh, how do I pay for this?” “My secretary will contact you for that. The first session was meant for us to get acquainted and make sure that we are a good fit."
“Great,” you said.  “Alright.” He looked at you. “Right. Then I’ll be going. Thank you, again. It was nice meeting you,” you mumbled.
“It was nice meeting you too,” he smiled and guided you to the door. You waved goodbye, and exited his house, the cold autumn air surrounding you. Well, now you really have an editor.
*
Alex didn't expect, well, you. He knew you were younger but god, were you a pretty little thing. His usual clients were a lot older and well, half of them were men.
He tried not to get carried away as his mind swirled with different thoughts about you. He didn't want to be creepy and he never wanted to give you that impression. So he tried his best to be professional.
But you were making it so hard. With your pouty lips and your fumbling hands every time you waited for a response from him. You wore these perfectly fitting tops that hugged your body. Occasionally when you moved around, the fabric would subtly reveal a glimpse of your midriff, making it impossible not to gawk at you. He thought you were simply adorable.
"So, how are your classes going? Anyone giving you trouble?" He asked, genuinely interested. "They're going well," you trailed off, sighing.
"It's one of my professors. I don't think he likes me," you murmured. "Who?" he asked.
"Professor Miller," you slumped a little. "Oh. Well I don't think he likes anyone if that makes you feel any better," you laughed. "No but seriously, what’s the problem?" he asked.
"I have the lowest grade in his class," you said, rolling your eyes, a little embarrassed to admit. "Grades aren't everything (Y/N). I've had my fair share of shitty grades too."
"What if I just suck though?" you asked, finding it unbelievable how comfortable you felt talking to him after knowing him only for a few weeks. "Nah. I would have dropped you by now," he teased you.
You gasped. “I’m only joking. You have a lot of potential,” he said, softly gazing into your eyes.
You smiled, feeling at ease.
"If you want I can help you with your assignments. Give you tips and such. Free of charge," he joked.
Both of you couldn't help but notice that your knees were touching but you felt comfortable staying close.
"Are you sure?" you asked. "Yeah. What else am I gonna do with my time?" he said. "Thanks," you said, feeling like this is beginning to border on inappropriate. But you didn't care.
"How about tomorrow, after your classes, you come by and we can see what we can do."
You nodded. "Okay. Sounds great."
*
You had entranced him. He knew it was inappropriate. He was your editor, after all. And much older than you. But he couldn't help it. He couldn't stand the idea of any of these college guys having you. You were too good. Too sweet.
He wanted to be the one who owned you. He often imagined what it would be like to graze your delicate skin with his fingers. Make you shiver under his touch. Or how you mouth would feel around his coc-
"I hate writing!" you exclaimed, getting up from his couch and pacing around. You guys had moved from his office to his living room. He wanted you to feel comfortable.
He listened to you intently as you explained what you meant to convey in your latest pages. He could have easily done this over an email, but no, he had to see you. Your low voice, sweet like honey, reached his ears.
You sighed. "I don't know. I feel like I'm losing sight of my story. I have no idea what to do next." You said, biting your lip.
"Maybe you should leave it be," Alex replied.
"Huh?" you questioned.
"Well you've been working really hard at it lately. When was the last time you did something else you were passionate about?"
"I-," you paused, "I don't know," you mumbled, sitting down next to him again.
"See? You need to forget about it for a while. Create some distance."
You mulled over his words. "Is that what you do?"
"Course. Every artist does."
You looked at him like the world hung on his lips.
"Yeah. I can try that," you said, a worried expression on your face.
"No," he laughed. "Don't take this as another assignment. I mean really forget about it. Do something that doesn't make you think about writing."
You thought about it for a while and asked "Like what?"
He hesitated. "Well." Fuck it, he thought. "I have two tickets to the theater tonight," he raised his eyebrows slightly. "One of my friends canceled on me and you can join me if you want.”
His gaze met yours as you registered what he asked you. He looked at you, biting his lip, worrying if he had been too forward.
"What's the play about?" you asked, caving in. He tried to contain his smile and continued "It's ballet. The last swan lake."
"Oh, I've always wanted to see that," you said. "Great. We can meet in front of the theater at 7:30. That alright?" he asked.
"Yeah. Sounds good," you replied, trying to contain your enthusiasm. "I'll see you later then."
*
As you were getting ready in your small bathroom, you couldn't help but feel nervous about tonight, butterflies swirling in your stomach. We can meet for a drink beforehand, if you want. My treat. He told you a few hours ago, wearing a shy smile.
You had reluctantly agreed. You wanted to spend time with him so badly but you felt like you were doing something wrong. You hadn’t even told Sophie yet.
You got dressed, slipping on your silky tights past your legs. You decided to wear a delicate black dress with long sleeves that exposed your plush thighs. Pairing it with your leather jacket and your red scarf, you slung your small handbag over your shoulder, getting ready to leave.
You decided to take your earphones with you and listen to music to calm your nerves.
When you arrived at the charming bar he had picked, you flung the door open and entered. lThe cozy ambience enveloped you as you stepped inside, a welcoming contrast to the crisp evening air outside.
Alex, already seated at a secluded corner table, looked up from his menu, a genuine smile spreading across his face as he caught sight of you entering.
As you made your way towards him, the gentle flicker of candlelight played on the edges of his features. "You made it," he said, rising from his seat and pulling your chair out for you.
“Thanks,” you mumbled, your cheeks rosy from the cold. You sat down, not knowing what to do with your hands or where to look. This felt strangely intimate.
“What do you want to drink?” he asked you.
“Uh. What are you getting?” you replied.
“Probably a beer.” He said.
“I guess I’ll get a glass of white wine then,” you replied, feeling somewhat awkward. You didn’t expect in a million years to have drinks with your editor.
“You sure? You can get anything you want. Like I said, it’s my treat.” He smiled.
“Thank you. Yeah I’m good,” you replied bashfully.
After the waiter brought your drinks you started delving into conversation.
"So, um, tell me more about yourself," Alex prompted, his gaze lingering on you.
You giggled, sipping your drink. "Well, there's not much to tell. Just a struggling student trying to make it out alive."
He chuckled, taking a sip of his drink. "From what I've seen, there's more than meets the eye."
You met his gaze, and the air shifted, charged with an unspoken tension. "You know, I never expected my editor to be someone who could make me forget about writer's block."
He raised an eyebrow, a playful glint in his eyes. "Maybe I'm just that good at my job."
The conversation flowed effortlessly, weaving between discussions of literature, shared interests, and personal anecdotes. As the night progressed, the topics ventured into more intimate territories, the subtle dance of words revealing layers beneath the surface.
"You have this way of making the mundane sound interesting," you remarked, now both on your second drink. You could feel your face heat up from the alcohol.
Alex leaned in, his gaze intense yet inviting. "Maybe it's the company that makes it interesting."
The words lingered in the air, a palpable tension settling between you. Unspoken desires sparked beneath the surface.
"Well, I find the company interesting too," you replied.
A hint of a smirk crossed Alex's face as he took a sip of his drink. "Careful now," he said. "Interesting company can be quite... distracting."
A subtle blush crept onto your cheeks. "Distracting can be a good thing." you replied.
"What are you distracting yourself from?" he asked, his gaze lingering on yours.
“I’m not sure. Everyone has problems, I guess,” you looked down at your hands.
“Anything you want to share?” he asked.
“Wouldn’t want to bore you,” you chuckled.
“You could never,” he replied, his tender eyes meeting yours. You stared at each other for a few seconds before you cleared your throat and looked at the time. “Oh, I think we should get going,” you said.
“Yeah, that’s a good idea,” Alex said and he gestured to the waiter for the bill. You thanked him for the drinks and promised you would return the favor next time you saw him. He agreed but knew he wouldn’t let you pay for anything, especially since you were just a student.
You had an amazing time seeing "Black Swan" at the theater. The ballet was captivating, and the music was incredible. You also noticed Alex glancing at you a few times throughout the show.
After the show, Alex walked you to your cab. Under the streetlights, there was a quiet moment filled with something more than words. You exchanged a look that said it all, a shared understanding between you. As you got into the cab, Alex stood on the sidewalk with a thoughtful smile and waved goodbye.
When you arrived at your dorm, your phone vibrated.
Did you get home safely? - Mr Turner.
Your heart fluttered.
Yes.
Great. Good night.
Night.
After washing your face and brushing your teeth, you huddled into your bed and drifted off to sleep, embracing your pillow. The night ushered you into a world of dreams.

Vacker sibling headcanons go 👀
Alvar was the first person Fitz ever reached out to telepathically after he manifested, and that created a pathway in Fitz's brain that made connecting to Alvar a muscle memory thing.
When Alvar was in the elite levels, Fitz would transmit thoughts to him all day long to make him laugh or to ask about his day because he really loved his big brother
Alvar would entertain this, but found it all deeply annoying, and like Fitz was trying to rub it in his face that he had the 'cooler' ability
Biana taught Fitz and Alvar how to braid hair. Fitz complained, but learned
Alvar LOVED it. He doted on Biana. He took her shopping, and he did his best (along with Della) to make sure Biana felt seen, because both of them were shoved out of the picture as soon as Fitz manifested it seemed.
Fitz always noticed Alvar's apparent favoritism, but didn't like bringing it up because Alvar's rebuttal was always "And your dad's favorite. It's okay to just let other people have things, you know."
A lot of Alvar and Fitz's interactions growing up were rather negative, and sometimes Fitz would get really upset, but most of the time he just liked that Alvar was paying attention to him
For mothers and fathers day, the three of them would get together and bake treats for their parents and write cards. However, this usually brought up a lot of feelings regarding the unspoken sibling rivalry.
Biana and Fitz got closer as they got older, especially once the two of them were shoved into the limelight. they became rather emotionally reliant on one another, Fitz on Biana more so than the other way around
she was good at shutting down rumors surrounding him, and always left a seat empty at the foxfire lunch table for him
Alvar was pretty absent by the time Sophie got to the lost cities
but Fitz's mind still connected to his brothers as easily as breathing. he never realized what evil lurked in his big brother's mind, and he feels a knot in his stomach every time he thinks about it
Biana no longer finds her similarities to Alvar comforting. She doesn't like that Alvar saw himself in her. That he said she was most likely to understand why he was doing what he did
she looks in the mirror and is comforted by the fact that her eyes are teal, like Fitz's.

SOPHIE WE NEED A STYLES-SWIFT READERS DITL ON EACH OF HER PARENTS' TOURS
pairing: harry styles/taylor swift x daughter!reader
genre: fluff
warnings: i couldn't think of any but lmk if i missed some :)
summary: moments of your life as a child of famous musicians on tour
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Taylor Swift on "The Eras Tour":
You can hardly contain your excitement as you walk hand-in-hand with your mom, Taylor Swift, to the stage. The lights are dim, and the audience is buzzing with anticipation.
You feel a little nervous, but your mom's reassuring smile calms your nerves.
As soon as your mom steps onto the stage, the crowd erupts in cheers. You watch in awe as she performs her hit songs from each of her albums, ultimately playing some of your personal favorites.
As the show goes on, you can't help but dance and sing along to every song. You see your mom glancing your way every once in a while, and it makes your heart swell with pride. You're so proud of her and all that she's accomplished.
During the acoustic portion of the show, your mom steps to the front of the stage with just her guitar. She tells the story behind one of her most personal songs, "Soon You'll Get Better," which she wrote about her own mother's battle with cancer.
You look up at your mom with tears in your eyes, feeling grateful that she's here with you and healthy.
The show ends with a spectacular finale, complete with fireworks and confetti. You and your mom take a bow together, and the audience roars with applause. You feel so lucky to be a part of this moment with your mom.
As you walk backstage, your mom takes your hand and gives it a squeeze. "I'm so glad you were here with me tonight," she says, giving you a warm hug. "You're my little star, you know that?"
You smile up at her, feeling loved and happy. "I know, Mom," you say. "And you're my big star."
Harry Styles with "Love on Tour":
As you step off the tour bus, you can't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness wash over you. This is your first time traveling with your dad, Harry Styles, on tour.
It had been quite the process to figure out all the logistics of you being able to come on tour with him. Whether it was online school, music lessons, or even just spending time with your mom, Taylor. But you were able to make it all work in order to be able to attend HSLOT
You've always been a huge fan of your dad's music, but seeing him perform live in front of thousands of fans is a completely different experience. You can feel the adrenaline pumping through your veins as you make your way to the backstage area.
"Hey, there she is!" your dad exclaims as he sees you walking towards him. He pulls you into a tight hug, and you can't help but smile as you feel his warm embrace.
"Are you ready for this?" he asks you, his eyes twinkling with excitement.
"I think so," you reply, trying to sound confident.
As you follow your dad to his dressing room, you can't help but feel a little overwhelmed. There are so many people bustling around, getting everything ready for the show.
But your dad is there every step of the way, showing you around and introducing you to all of his bandmates and crew members. You feel like a VIP as you watch them rehearse and prepare for the show.
As the opening notes of your dad's hit song fill the arena, you take your place in the front row. You can feel the energy of the crowd as they scream and cheer, and you can't help but feel a little proud knowing that your dad is the one making them feel this way.
As your dad sings his heart out on stage, you can't help but sing along with him. It's like you've known these songs your whole life, and you feel a sense of connection to the music that you've never felt before.
As the show comes to a close, your dad takes your hand and leads you back to the tour bus. You're exhausted but exhilarated, and you can't wait to do it all over again tomorrow.
"I'm so glad you're here with me," your dad says, giving you a squeeze.
"Me too," you reply, feeling grateful for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
As you drift off to sleep, you can't help but dream about all of the adventures that await you on this tour with your dad
hat trick | sidney crosby
Tumblr media
summary: sidney goes three for three on and off the ice.
warnings: mentions of sex, kids, pregnancy, morning sickness, breeding kink if you squint
a/n: this is my first hockey fic! I missed writing so this was a fun little intro back into it. enjoy!
xoxo nina
one.
You sighed as you settled onto the couch, watching as the Penguins skated off the ice. They’d just been eliminated in the first round of playoffs after a tough five game series. You knew Sidney would be devastated when he came home the next day.
What you weren’t expecting was Sidney coming home before 6 AM. You were still fast asleep when a pair of arms wrapped around your waist, pulling you close.
“Mmm Sid? You’re not to supposed to be back till noon,” you mumbled as Sidney’s hand trailed under your sleep shirt.
“Missed my favorite girl,” Sidney’s words were muffled as his lips pressed to your neck, eliciting a low moan from you.
You rolled onto your back and looked up at Sidney whose lips were trailing over your skin, “As much as I love you, the sun isn’t even up yet. Did you even change before you jumped in bed?”
“No, I’m on a mission,” Sidney’s lips were still pressed to your skin as he spoke, his hands trailing up your sides to brush at the curve of your breasts. “I’m gonna win the Cup next year.”
You giggled as Sidney stripped off your shirt and his before his lips met yours in a hot kiss. You pulled back, meeting his eyes, “Which is a great goal babe, but I don’t see how us having sex has anything to do with that.”
“Our baby is gonna sit in the Stanley Cup next year,” Sidney grinned down at you.
“What baby?”
“The baby I’m going to put into you,” Sidney’s voice was low and thick as his fingers reached down and slipped under the lace of your panties, coaxing a low gasp from your lips. “Gotta start now, there’s no time to waste babe.”
“Sid-“
Your words were cut off as Sidney kissed you once more, his fingers slowly sliding into you. You’d talked about kids before, but you always thought he was the more hesitant one. His eagerness to start trying right away made you smile as his teeth gently sunk into the delicate skin of your neck.
“Fuck baby,” Sidney groaned as he leaned away to look at you. “Can’t wait to fill you up, see you growing with my baby.”
You blinked up at Sidney as he waited for you to answer the question hanging between you. With a small grin you reached up and threaded your fingers through his hair, leaning your forehead against his.
“Well what are you waiting for? Put a baby in me Captain.”
-
The excitement in the arena was contagious as Sid skated across the ice, the Stanley Cup held high above his head. Your husband had never looked so happy, his grin threatening to overtake his face as he skated over to you.
“I’m so proud of you baby,” you grinned as Sidney pulled you in and gave you a passionate kiss. “So freaking proud.”
“I love you,” Sidney grinned before extending his arms towards his mom who was standing behind you. “Hand her over, I’ve been waiting far too long for this.”
Trina grinned as Sidney kissed her cheek and then took the baby in her arms. Your daughter Sophie was only three months old but she wore a bright smile as her dad brought her against his chest. Tears threatened to run down your cheeks as Sidney leaned down to place her in the top of the Stanley Cup, cameras flashing all around you.
“C’mere,” Sidney gestured to you and you quickly pressed yourself into his hold. “Wouldn’t be here without you. I love you baby.”
“I love you too Sid.”
two.
“Babe! I’m home!”
You groaned as your head rested against the cool porcelain of the toilet bowl, your stomach churning as you took deep breaths. You could hear Sidney come into the house, dropping his bag and ducking into Sophie’s room before heading towards your bedroom.
“Babe?”
You went to answer but your stomach decided to roll unpleasantly and you’re bent over the toilet again as you gagged.
A warm hand rested on your back as you groaned, your body lurching forward again. Sidney pulled your hair back from your face.
“You need me to go get anything for you,” Sidney asked as you finally stopped puking, your head resting on his chest. “Meds or some soup and crackers?”
You shook your head as you groaned, “No I’m fine. I just wanna nap.”
“You sure you don’t need anything? I love you but you look awful,” Sidney pushed your hair away from your face as he pressed a kiss to your head.
“I’m fine,” you sighed as you leaned further into his hold. “Your demon spawn is just trying to take over my body.”
“What the hell does that… Wait,” Sidney leaned back and looked you over. “You’re pregnant?”
You let a small grin take over your face, “Don’t sound so shocked, you’re the one that insisted we celebrate the Cup win everyday for two weeks. Multiple times. I’m pretty sure this baby is a result of a shit ton of champagne and the time you dragged me into the broom closet during that gala.”
“Hey! This baby was not conceived in a broom closet,” Sidney grinned as he leaned down and pressed his lips to your forehead. “I love you. And I’m excited for another little one to chase around.”
“I’m excited to, but I’d love to stop puking up my guts,” you smirked as Sid squeezed your shoulders.
three.
“Sophie! Stop running, you know I can’t keep up with you!”
You groaned as your four year old raced ahead of you through the crowds of the arena. While Sophie had grown up within the walls of the PPG Paints Arena seeing her sprint through the halls still made your heart flip. Thankfully Taylor took off after her, scooping the little girl into her arms.
“Oh sweetheart, you need a nap,” Trina Crosby settled her hand on your shoulder as she sidled up next to you. “Running after two babies is hard work enough, throw in another one on the way. I’m sure you’re exhausted.”
You smiled and hoisted Violet higher on to your hip. Trina and Taylor had both offered to carry her but the little girl was glued to your side, even with your nine month baby bump in the way.
“I’m okay for now. Besides, this could be Sid’s last time winning the Cup, I’m not going to miss it for anything,” you grinned and settled a hand in your bump. Your third baby was giving you a hard time today but you tried to silently convey to them that this game was important. “Plus Taylor has Sophie covered and all Vi wants is cuddles.”
Troy chuckled as he joined your group, placing a hand on your shoulder, “And what will you do if this next one is a spitfire boy like Sid?”
“Hand him off to his dad,” you grinned as Trina and Troy both laughed. You headed into the suite behind them, settling into a chair as Violet scrambled toward Troy who gladly hoisted her up.
Game seven of the Stanley Cup finals was eventful, everyone in the suite cheering loudly as Sidney scored his first and second goal of the night. Sophie was bouncing excitedly between Taylor and Trina while Troy was trying to explain the game to Violet who simply kept yelling ‘penguin!’ any chance she got.
“C’mon boys! You got this,” you yelled as you watched the Penguins battling it out on the ice. “Let’s go Sid!”
You watched with bated breath as the tied game ticked down to its final seconds, Sidney commandeering the puck and shooting it into the goal for win and a complete hat trick.
Trina, Troy, Taylor, and you cheered loudly as Sidney and his teammates celebrated their victory. Sophie and Violet cheered as well, not quite knowing what was happening but excited none the less.
You and the Crosby’s headed down to the ice to congratulate Sidney on another win. Your hand floated down to your bump as a sharp kick from your third child hit you, “I know, you’re excited too. But can we settle down a bit please?”
“Baby giving you trouble?” You grinned widely as Sidney skated up to you, placing a hand across your bump as he leaned down to kiss you.
“Congrats baby,” you smiled as you placed your hand on Sidney’s chest. “I’m so proud of you.”
“Couldn’t have done it without you,” Sidney mumbled into your hair as he pulled you close. “You and the girls and this little one mean more to me than the Cup.”
“But the Cup is sure nice,” you giggled as Sid looked over your shoulder at the Stanley Cup.
“Sure is,” Sidney laughed just as the baby produced a harsh kick against his hand. “Hey there buddy, you excited about the win too? Once you get here I’ll sit you in the Cup, promise.”
Sophie ran up behind you, looping herself around Sidney’s legs. “Daddy! You won again!”
Sidney hoisted Sophie up, Violet reaching for you from Troy’s arms. With both girls between you and your husband, you smiled as the Penguins media team snapped photos of your family. You were notoriously private about your kids but today was a celebration for Sidney so you didn’t mind sharing your family moment with the world.
“You’re missing this Cap,” Kris skated over with the Stanley Cup, settling it in front of you and Sidney. “Honorary family member.”
“I think it’s Vi’s turn to sit in the cup,” Sidney grinned as Violet smiled up at him. “C’mere pretty girl. Crosby tradition, littlest one sits on top.”
Sophie wiggled out of Sidney’s arms as he took Violet from you, the 18 month old smiling widely as her father placed her in the top of the silver cup. You smiled for a few more photos before the celebration continued. You stayed glued to Sidney’s side as he accepted congratulations from everyone, his hand rested against your bump as he held you close.
“Mommy! You peed your pants,” Sophie gasped as she pointed at your leggings that were now sporting a dark stain. You could feel the wetness seeping through the fabric just as a sharp pain radiated through your stomach.
“Sid we might need to take this celebration elsewhere,” you looked up and met your husbands wide eyes. “Looks like the baby really was excited to celebrate.”
Excitement buzzed around you as everyone scrambled to get you and Sidney out of the arena as quickly as possible. You let Trina fawn over you, checking to be sure you had everything and assuring you they’d take care of the girls.
Once you and Sidney were settled in your car with an escort out of the crowded parking lot you turned to him with a grin, “Going for the double hat trick?”
Sid’s brows furrowed as he glanced over at you, “Double?”
“Yeah baby number three means you’ve officially achieved the dad hat trick,” you grinned and Sidney chuckled as his hand gripped yours. “I’m so proud of you Sid. You were amazing tonight.”
“Thanks baby,” Sidney smiled and pressed a kiss to the back of your hand. “Ready?”
“As I’ll ever be.”
What's your favorite cannon thing you truly like about Keefe Sencen
I DARE you 😈
i've been dared . . .
definitely my favorite thing is the fact that in flashback/legacy he was 100% not only supportive of sophie and fitz's relationship despite having a crush on sophie, but also actively tries to keep sophie from doing something that could even be interpreted as implicative. there was a poll a while ago about whether people thought sophie and keefe were (even unintentionally) emotionally cheating on fitz, and i answered a hard no. and the main reason for that was because of keefe. he does so much to try to keep sophitz together during that time, including telling sophie to confide in fitz, telling her to tell him about the matchmaking thing, shutting ro down (or at least doing his best to), and generally speaking, he did not have to do all that. like, yeah, any decent person would be supportive and not actively try to break their two friends in a relationship up, but keefe goes way beyond that and actively tells sophie exactly what to do in order to keep her relationship with fitz intact. every time fitz "catches" him with sophie it's lowkey painful to think about what keefe must be feeling because he spends so much time trying to prevent that exact thing from happening. there's even a line in legacy where sophie admits this herself. one of the only times he uses his empathy not dubiously is at the end of legacy, where sophie "tells" him (i use the term loosely) that she and fitz broke up. and he immediately says "i'm sorry", expressing out loud his sympathy for their relationship's end.
(one thing i've heard people misinterpret a lot in anti keefe things is the "blond hottie" line, which they say is an inappropriate thing to say about someone in a relationship. that was not said by keefe. that was said by ro. she says that when she's trying to convince sophie that bronte can't be her bio dad, to which keefe then says "unless she gets that from her mom". that's all he says. sophie then wonders whether that meant he agreed with the blond hottie assessment, but that doesn't come from anything he actually says.)
it surprises me that i haven't seen keefe lovers talk more about the fact that fitz literally commissioned him to draw him and sophie in a very romantic pose in a very romantic spot and keefe did it. so i'm going to talk about it. once again, this is not just baseline "my crush is in a relationship, oh well, guess i won't interfere" stuff. this is going above and beyond to keep sophie and fitz together. again, keefe has a crush on sophie. i'm not an artist, but obviously art doesn't just pop up out of thin air. he spent some time making that drawing. and all that time is yet another reminder that his crush is in a relationship. he could've told fitz no, made up some excuse as to why he couldn't do it, and that would've been well within his right. but he didn't. so that's a thing worth mentioning. (i'm going to just say i don't like the argument that fitz knew what he was doing when he asked keefe for the drawing, though. i think fitz just thought "sophie likes keefe's drawings! let me get her one of those" which is sweet in and of itself.)
in unlocked, keefe thinks something like "he definitely should not be happy that two people close to him were going through a rough patch. but, if he was being honest, he wasn't really sad" or something to that effect. and i like that. he has a crush on sophie, so of course part of him will be happy she's now single again. it's realistic. i've definitely talked about this before, but jealousy isn't a character flaw to me. it's only the actions that a character does because of their jealousy that defines whether or not it's a bad thing. but the thing with keefe is that he never allows the fact that he likes sophie to outwardly affect sophie and fitz's relationship in any negative way when they're tentatively dating. sophie and fitz fell apart for a lot of reasons, but the reasons were entirely on sophie and fitz, and had nothing to do with keefe himself. in fact, you could argue they only lasted as long as they did because of keefe.
i complained a lot about how much he doesn't shut up about his hair in my rant. but that was mostly at his humor style and the fact that he literally talks about it at the weirdest times (in his registry file . . . ) more so than the fact itself. and truthfully, he doesn't even talk about it that much. but i think it makes a lot of sense that he takes pride in it. it's the physical manifestation of rebellion against his parents who have controlled every other aspect of his life. he's also an artist, and i think it's a pretty neat thing that that extends to the way he styles his hair. also it looks good. i will die on this hill. just don't look at the laura art. jason chan is my king and keefe's hair is very cool and- *gunshot*
there's also a handful of moments where keefe uses his humor appropriately, to ease tension. best example i can think of is the one katie brought up in this post which is the moment in flashback right before the celestial festival (climax). magnate leto gives them all these sparkler things to light if they're in danger, and keefe sets off a couple prematurely "just to make sure they work" *wink wink nudge nudge* and sophie specifically says the "bit of levity" helped tame the "monster" she's been battling the whole book. when he's able to use his humor appropriately, and not at weird times about weird things, he can be a valuable source of comfort. these moments are unfortunately few and far between, but they do exist.
keefe is also good at calming sophie down when she's panicking, when he's not using his empathy to force her to tell him her feelings. i personally like it more when he's comforting her using his words than his emotional breezes, because that speaks more to his personality than it does to his ability to use his emotional breezes to calm her down. another example katie discusses in the post above is when he's talking to her about the bronte-is-her-bio-dad theory. sophie was panicking because she was thinking about the implications of it (prentice, him acting horrible to her, etc.) and keefe brings her back down to earth with his reassurances that this doesn't change anything about her. when she says bronte can't know she knows, he immediately gets her to reconsider in a gentle way, because like. that's the entire point of her search for her bio parents. he does all this using his words (actually i just checked and he does use his emotional breezes a couple of times but his words do have an impact on their own so we're disregarding that), which does prove that he's very good at knowing what to say to keep her calm.
(also the fact that he was even helping her search for her bio parents is another example of him going above and beyond to keep her relationship to fitz intact. he didn't have to do that at all.)
and lastly, i think i mentioned this in my rant and maybe a couple other places, but i think keefe's jealousy when it comes to family is written very realistically. in neverseen, he's jealous of fitz, biana, sophie, and dex when they hug their parents, and there's a line where he specifically says "i hate watching it. them and della" (them referring to fitz and biana). in unlocked, he's again jealous of dex's family and wishes he'd been born into a family like his. and i think that's written really well. it's pretty subtle and not really shoved in your face, too. i'm pretty sure there's a total of three times it gets brought up: the "them and della" line, one line at the end of neverseen where sophie and dex are hugging edaline and kesler, and then the line in unlocked. very blink and you miss it but i like that. it's one of the few things the narrative doesn't dump a truckload of pity on keefe for, and it makes the few times it is brought up even sadder.
oh, and also i think he's handsome. sue me.
Thinking about getting into kotlc. What specifically do you like and find recommendable about it?
Keeper of the Lost Cities is my all time favorite book series. It's not the objectively best story I've ever read, but it's my favorite. Here are a few reasons you should ABSOLUTELY read KOTLC:
Fantastic adoption plot. The process of Grady and Edaline adopting Sophie and the complicated way Sophie grows to see them as parental figures, the ups and downs, the way it takes years for her to decide to adress one of them as mom or dad, the way those moments are portrayed as special... it really clicks, especially as someone from a foster family.
The main character is super realistic and well developed. She undergoes a lot of non-linear character development. She has strong beliefs that sometimes conflict with what she's expected to stand for. Her journey from book one to book nine with how she learns to be a leader, stand up for herself, and do what she thinks is right all the time is super well portrayed.
The characters and their relationships are very well developed and complex. Yes, certain things are made very clear through the narration because Shannon is in fact writing for kids, but after books one and two a lot of the kids series feel vanishes almost entirely. I mean, no, it's still charming and silly most of the time, but it doesn't feel as young, especially as the characters grow older and a lot of darker and more complicated issues begin to arise.
The portrayal of the dystopia is fascinating. KOTLC is not in the dystopian genre for a reason. The Lost Cities are not presented as a dystopia at all. That just... comes out slowly. Sophie goes there and is told that everything about the world is perfect, and since everything is sparkling and glittering, it must be, right? She has a few early thoughts about how certain things seem wrong, and those thoughts continue to grow as the problems with the Lost cities become clearer and clearer. Their government and social systems are very messed up, and Sophie only sees the surface of it because she's usually interacting with the nobility, but the reason for both rebellions formed is fixing those exact societal issues.
The good guys and bad guys want a lot of the same things. There's a focus in KOTLC on doing the right thing, not just achieving the right goal. Which sometimes means characters mess that up! (cough keefe sencen cough) But again, all this stuff is explored in a super accessible way, because it's a middle grade series. It feels like reading something deeply interesting with good messages without having to take a lot of time to wrap your head around what those messages are.
The characters are incredibly well-developed. Their backgrounds and history explain most of their personality and actions in amazing ways. I'm thinking specifically of Sophie, Keefe, Tam, Linh, Fitz, and Dex right now, but I'm sure there are more examples (and I hope it gets explored more with Marella in the future, tbh. We know about her childhood--how does that impact her personality?) It makes it very interesting to rotate these elves around in your head.
There are multi-book arcs, many huge reveals are foreshadowed from the beginning. The books open lots and lots of mystery boxes--there are tons of questions being asked ALWAYS--but in the end, they get answered (some more satisfying than others), really portraying just how much can happen even in a short time frame for these kids. Honestly, the whole three-years-over-nine-books thing feels PERFECT to me. Unlike Harry Potter, each book isn't a school year. Unlike Percy Jackson, each book isn't a summer vacation. All of these things happen one after the other, saturating the characters lives, and I think it's very interesting.
The adults have some crazy lore going on. It's pretty fun to try to piece all of that stuff together because Sophie doesn't take a lot of interest in it.
Everything about KOTLC is interesting to me. I'm not going to say there's no issues with it ever (please followers do not come in my ask box and start telling me there are issues with KOTLC idk why it's so controversial to say that Shannon did a really good job with character and plot complexity) but I hugely recommend giving it a read. Let me know if you read it and what you think!
